Reduction in value, loss of value, loss of resale value and diminished value are different ways people refer to, what is called in Florida a Diminution of Value claim. Florida law allows its citizens to pursue this type of claim following a vehicle collision even if the at-fault party pays 100% of the car repair costs.

What exactly is this reduction of value? Quite simply put, your vehicle following an accident, even if fully repaired to your satisfaction, does not retain the same value as before the car crash. In this information age, buyers can, through minimal research, find the entire vehicle history, including the accident history. Once it is learned or revealed that your vehicle was involved in an accident that required significant repairs, it goes without saying, a buyer likely will not pay what they would have, or what they would for the same make and model vehicle that was not involved in an accident.

Whether you handle your own property damage claim or retain the services of an attorney for personal injuries, the potential diminution of value claim should be considered.
