Many automobile accidents involving fatalities are the result of not wearing a seat belt, drinking and driving or reckless driving. Did you ever consider danger is increased by the time of day drivers are on the road?

According to data gathered by Forbes and reported on Autoblog.com, there are certain times which are the least safe to get behind the wheel of a car. The most dangerous one, is one in which many drivers are unable to avoid-afternoon rush hour. During the hours between 5-7pm there is an average of 6.6 deaths per hour in the United States. Although these numbers are startling so is the volume of traffic on the roads during rush hour.

The Forbes publication lists the most dangerous time per driver on the road to be between midnight and 4am. They noted the following findings:

·        36% of nighttime fatal accidents involve drunk driving

·        71% of people killed on the road after midnight were not wearing seat belts

·        55% of drivers killed in an accident during the day were not seat belted

·        Saturday is the deadliest day of the week

·        August is the worst month of the year for accident fatalities

·        July 4th is the worst day of the year to be on the road

·        Thanksgiving weekend is the most dangerous holiday weekend to travel

These findings are notable because, although we can’t cease to drive our vehicles, we can think twice about when we drive and of course, how we drive.
