The Florida Highway Patrol reports one person dead and one seriously injured following a motorcycle crash that closed U.S. Highway 92 for several hours Thursday morning, according to local media outlets.  The unfortunate passenger, Angela Fattarusso, was killed when the bike left the roadway and crashed first into a fence and then eventually a tree.

The driver of the motorcycle, Paul Gatta of Thonotosassa, was taken by emergency helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.  Troopers are still investigating the accident.

Although the Tampa metro area covers a large area, I remain amazed at the recent number of serious motorcycle accidents.  Although non-riders want to lump all motorcycle accidents the same, there have been a number of motorcycle deaths recently, each with unique circumstances.
